The DSBN is committed to helping all students become successful in
school. To support that goal, every high school within the Board now has an
In-School Student Success Team. These teams work very closely with students and
their families to provide extra attention and support for those that need it.
What is a
Student Success Team, and what do they do?
In-School
Student Success Teams consist of an Administrator, Student Success Teacher(s),
Special Education Teacher, Guidance Counsellor, and Youth Counsellor.
The
team’s number one priority is to identify and support all students at risk of
not graduating on schedule. They do this by:
- Providing students with individualized attention
and support
- Offering students more options for learning,
such as expanded co-op programs, Specialist High Skills Majors, Dual Credits
and e-Learning
- Offering students help in solving problems they
may have previously faced alone
- Providing professional learning opportunities
for school staff
These teams focus on the needs of the
whole student, either providing the necessary supports and resources, or
referring the student and his/her family to the appropriate agency to ensure
the student has the tools and strategies to experience both personal and
academic success.
Who
are they for?
The teams are for students
who are struggling, who need extra attention to help them graduate or who are
looking for new challenges in high school.
