Silver Birch/Red Maple

  • Dates: 05 – 05 May, 2017
  • How to find us: Scotiabank Centre, Niagara Falls
The Silver Birch® and Red Maple Student Conferences are the culminating events for students in Grade 5 and 6 (Silver Birch®) and Grade 7 and 8 (Red Maple) who have participated in the OLA Forest of Reading® programs within their schools. These board-wide celebrations provide our dedicated readers and book club members with the opportunity to connect with their peers and educators from across the DSBN who have a shared passion for literacy. They will interact with Canadian authors to develop an appreciation of Canadian literature and fuel their love of reading and writing.

This year, both events will be held on Friday, May 5 at the Scotiabank® Convention Centre in Niagara Falls.

The Silver Birch® and Red Maple™ Student Conferences:

- validate and celebrate the dedication and joy of reading
- develop a lifelong habit of recreational reading by providing opportunities for reading for pleasure, talking about and learning through fiction and non-fiction books
- empower students with the opportunity to vote for the book they think is the best book for children in their age group.
