DSBN Hosts Career Fair for Aboriginal Students

On Friday, April 1, Aboriginal students from across the District School Board of Niagara will have the opportunity to explore potential future professions at a career fair hosted by the DSBN and Brock University. The event will bring together students, educators, Aboriginal agencies and respected employers to support students with information and insight into a number of exciting career options. The fair will take place at the Double Tree Fallsview in Niagara Falls.

The morning will begin with a Native fire prayer from local wood burning artist Earl Dionne. Following the prayer, Dionne will speak to students about his work, his life and the need for resilience in overcoming personal challenges.

While exploring the different booths, students will also be treated to a musical presentation from the Ohnia-Kara Singers, a First Nations drum and dance group.

Dr. Susan Hill will deliver the event’s keynote address. Dr. Hill is of the Mohawk Nation from Six Nations of the Grand River. She is a great believer in the power of education to open doors for young people. Dr. Hill is a recipient of the Governor General’s Gold Medal for Academic Excellence.
