DSBN Students Tackle Provincial Tech Challenges

DSBN Technology students are putting their expertise on display at the 22nd Ontario Technological Skills Competition (OTSC) at RIM Park and Manulife Financial Sportsplex in Waterloo from May 2-3.  From 150 DSBN Technological Skills medalists who competed locally, 46 champion students have earned a spot at the OTSC where they will join 1,000 competitors from across the province.  DSBN schools will also be sending more than 400 students to join over 30,000 spectators and visitors to the event.

“The road to the OTSC level competition takes a high degree of skill and extensive preparation under the guidance of teachers and mentors,” says Mike Doyle, DSBN Skills Development Coordinator. “We are proud of the excellence already demonstrated by our students in the DSBN Technological Skills Challenges and wish our students the best at the provincial challenges.”

Secondary students will compete Tuesday, May 3, in 21 competitions. Gold Medal competitors from the secondary level at the OTSC will move on to represent Ontario at the Skills Canada Competition, June 1-4, in Quebec City.

Elementary students from the DSBN will compete Monday in five team competitions; 2D Character Animation, Lego Mechanics, Lego Robotics, and the Technology Challenge.  The OTSC Medalists for these Elementary competitions will be announced at the end of Monday’s event.

The Ontario Technological Skills Competition is part of a widely recognized and supported international skills program that highlights the value of and the need for highly developed trade and technology skills in today’s economy.
