Students Enjoy Global Delicacies at Lincoln Centennial

Lincoln Centennial Public School in St. Catharines will be serving up a bevy of culinary delights from around the globe at the “Taste of the World” potluck luncheon. The appetizing event, which takes place on May 26, will feature dishes prepared by staff, parents and community members.

“We are very proud of the cultural and ethnic diversity that exists at Lincoln Centennial. It allows for a wonderful exchange of cultures and traditions. It is certainly something to be celebrated,” says principal Brian Baranoski.

The potluck lunch was conceived as an enjoyable way to commemorate the many different cultures that make up the school community. “We wanted to host an inclusive event that offered something we could all share, regardless of race, language or religion. There are few things that bring people together quite like food, so it was decided that our celebration would give participants a taste of each other’s culture,” adds Baranoski.

This is the second time Lincoln Centennial will be hosting a potluck lunch. “The first potluck event exceeded our expectations as hundreds of people packed into the school gym to try dishes from around the globe.  Many students, parents and friends of Centennial had the opportunity to try foods they’d never eaten before and everyone enjoyed sitting together and ‘breaking bread’ as they chatted and laughed,” says vice-principal Gerry Winger.
