MTV Reality Show Coach to Speak at DSBN STAT Conference

The annual DSBN STAT (Students Taking Action Today) conference is an opportunity for students to become inspired and empowered to make positive changes in their schools and communities. Hundreds of elementary and secondary students are expected to attend the event taking place at Welland Centennial on October 26 and 27.

This year, students will be developing their leadership potential with teen life coach Jeff Yalden. Jeff is a coach on MTV’s Made, a self-improvement reality show for teens. The series pairs teens up with a coach who helps them attain their goals. On the show, Jeff has helped teens train to become comedians, debaters and more. Outside of the show, Jeff is an author and motivational speaker who promotes respect and personal responsibility.

On his website, Jeff writes that he helps students discover their true ambitions. “In finding their purpose, they find clarity, character and happiness. I help them draw their own conclusions, make their own choices and understand the consequences of what they choose.”

Student Achievement Leader Kelly McDonnell says the STAT Conference is an important part of the DSBN’s Character Education Plan. “Our students understand they have an important role to play in the health and well being of their schools and communities. Through the STAT conference and other educational opportunities, students will gain the tools and confidence to take action and model good citizenship,” says McDonnell.
