Power Glen Public School Teacher Named Recipient of 2012 Norah Morgan Award   

Congratulations to Power Glen Public School teacher Nancy Gill, for being named the recipient of the 2012 Norah Morgan Memorial Award. Established by Carousel Players, the award celebrates the commitment and achievements of elementary school teachers who have made a strong contribution to the arts in Niagara area schools.

Power Glen Principal Candi Sitko nominated Gill for the award and calls her an outstanding teacher who is very passionate about teaching the visual arts. “On any given day, at any given time, art is happening in Nancy’s classroom. In her classes, students are taught to think, reflect and write about their art and the art works of others. It is wonderful to see students develop their creativity while building critical thinking and literacy skills,” says Sitko.

A dedicated teacher who has spent her entire fifteen year career at Power Glen Public School in St. Catharines, Gill says she is honoured to receive the Norah Morgan Award. She has been an Elementary Arts Council member for over half a decade, and has led many professional development workshops for visual arts teachers.

Nancy was presented with the award on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the District School Board of Niagara Board meeting.

In addition to working with a wonderful teacher, students will further benefit from Nancy’s award.  On April 17, students in Grades 4-8 at Power Glen Public School will receive a free performance by Carousel Players of “Spelling 2-5-5”. The play promotes a greater understanding of children diagnosed with autism and the issues they face.
