DSBN Welcomes Families to Kindergarten Open Houses

The world is a big, wondrous place, and young children are only beginning to explore it. Going to school for the first time is a major step in their journey of exploration.

Kindergarten also represents a big change for parents as well as children. On Thursday, February 2, between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m., parents and children will have an opportunity to see their new school, ask questions and find out how DSBN schools foster students’ intellectual, social, creative and physical development at the annual Kindergarten Open Houses. All DSBN schools that offer Kindergarten programs will be hosting open houses.

“Kindergarten at the DSBN is a wonderful place to be. Young children are active, curious learners who need space, different materials and time to try out their ideas, gain experience and expand their learning. Our programs offer them a variety of play-based and academic experiences to challenge and delight them,” says Sue Mark, Superintendent of Schools.

“In Kindergarten, students will also develop a strong foundation with the skills, knowledge and positive attitude necessary for lifelong learning,” adds Mark.

At the Kindergarten Open Houses, parents will be able to meet the teachers, principal and register their children for school. Registration takes about ten minutes; those interested should bring their child’s birth certificate, immunization record and provincial health card.

At the open houses, parents also have an opportunity to learn more about the DSBN’s exciting full-day learning programs for four and five year old children. Click here for more information about the Full Day Early Learning Kindergarten Programs.
