March Break Camps to Ignite Student Interest in Science and Technology 

Aboriginal students in Grades 4 – 8 have the opportunity to spend March Break immersed in robotics, electronics and digital media. The IGNITE camp program aims to spark student interest in engineering, science and technology.

The camps, which take place from March 12-15, will be hosted at three DSBN secondary schools, St. Catharines Collegiate, Stamford Collegiate in Niagara Falls and Fort Erie Secondary. Camps run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day. The camps are free and transportation will also be provided to students at no cost.

“This is a very exciting opportunity for students,” says Georgie Groat, DSBN Aboriginal Education Consultant. "Technology impacts our lives every single day and attending these camps is a great way for students to see the future career options in the field, which may help them to begin thinking about their post-secondary options. Plus, students will have a great time with all the fun and interactive activities.”

The IGNITE camps are being offered in partnership with IBM, and with the support of the Education Foundation of Niagara, SNC Lavalin, Engage Learning Systems, BMO Financial Group and Tim Hortons. This is the first time these camps will be offered at the DSBN.
