DSBN Technology Champions Prepare for Provincial Competitions
Thirty-four of the DSBN’s Technology Champions will be competing this coming Monday and Tuesday, April 30 – May 1, at the 23rd Ontario Technological Skills Competition (OTSC) at RIM Park and Manulife Financial Sportsplex in Waterloo.
In February, over 600 students took part in the DSBN Technological Skills Challenges, 95 were named medalists in their chosen trade and 34 have earned a spot on Team DSBN at the OTSC. The Ontario competitions bring together over 1,000 students to compete in more than 60 skilled trade contests. Additionally, DSBN schools will be sending about 700 students to join the anticipated 30,000 spectators and visitors to the annual competition.
“We are proud of the technical and creative excellence already demonstrated throughout the year by students in our many Technology programs and particularly by those in the DSBN Technological Skills Challenges,” says Mike Doyle, DSBN Skills Development Coordinator. “The road to the OTSC level competition takes a high degree of skill and extensive preparation under the guidance of teachers and mentors.”
Medalists for the secondary level competitions are announced at the OPTSC Awards Ceremony in Kitchener on Wednesday, May 2. Gold Medal competitors from the secondary level competitions at the OTSC will advance to represent Ontario at the Skills Canada Competition, May 13-16, in Edmonton.
At Skills Canada, this is a qualifying year for 2012 World Skills competition in Leipzig, Germany.
