Westlane Robotoics Headed to River City to Take on the World
Get ready St. Louis, the Spartonics are coming!
Westlane Secondary School’s robotics team earned a berth in the FIRST Robotics world championships in St. Louis from April 24 – 27 after winning their regional competition held in Pittsburgh over the March Break.
The team, known as the Spartonics, most recently appeared in the FIRST world championships two years ago. The competition was also held at Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. Teams competed in the “Logo Motion” challenge.
This year’s competition theme is “Ultimate Ascent”. This game is played by two competing alliances on a flat field. Each alliance has three robots and they compete to place as many discs into their goals as they can in two minutes and fifteen seconds. Points increase depending on the height of each goal.
Once the game was announced, teams had six weeks to plan, design, develop and test their robots.
This year’s world championship will feature over 400 teams and will be seen by over 35,000 spectators.
