DSBN Students Shine at Ontario Skills Competitions
The DSBN’s technology students are once again amongst the best in the province after a very successful showing at the Ontario Technological Skills Challenges (OTSC). Students returned from Waterloo with 10 medals, 2 gold, 2 silver and six bronze.
“Our students’ success is a testament to their effort, skill, determination, the outstanding technology programs at the DSBN and the dedicated mentorship of their teachers and industry partners,” said Jill Russell, DSBN Consultant for Technology and Experiential Learning.
On the strength of their gold medal wins at the OTSC in Waterloo, two students earned the opportunity to join Team Ontario and showcase their skills on the national stage. E.L. Crossley’s Jon Louws (Electrical Wiring) and Stamford Collegiate’s Joann Vu (Hairstyling) will travel to Vancouver, British Columbia to compete at the Canadian Skills Challenges from June 6-8:
“We wish our gold medal winners the best of luck as they prepare for the upcoming competition in Vancouver. They’re great ambassadors for their schools and the technology programs at the DSBN,” added Russell.
The following students also earned medals at the OTSC:
- Cameron Principi, Grimsby Secondary, Silver in Mechanical CADD
- Luke Dick, Eden High School, St. Catharines, Silver in Computer Aided Manufacturing
- Chase Griffin, Port Colborne High School, Bronze in Job Skill Demonstration
- George Liu, Westlane Secondary, Niagara Falls, Bronze in Website Development
- Corey Porter, Westlane Secondary, Niagara Falls, Bronze in Refrigeration
- Rob Kuehnen, Grimsby Secondary, Bronze in Architectural Tech and Design
- Isaac Grist, Port Colborne High School, Carpentry (team of two)
- Ryan Grist, Port Colborne High School, Carpentry (team of two)
The Ontario Technological Skills Competitions were held from May 6 -7 at RIM Park in Waterloo. A total of 26 DSBN students took part in 21 different challenges.
