Young Women to Explore Opportunities in the Skilled Trades

On Thursday, November 14, the District School Board of Niagara will host the first annual technology conference for female students in grades 9-12. Taking place in St. Catharines, the “Your Future Starts Now” conference will give young women from public high schools across the region the opportunity to meet, interact and learn from female professionals working in the skilled trades.

“The conference will be an ideal opportunity for students to learn from women who have found fulfilling careers in the skilled trades. The speakers will share their knowledge, experiences and challenges. It should be a very rewarding and inspiring day for many young women considering their future career options,” said Kevin Graham, DSBN Technology and Experiential Learning Consultant.

“We know that Canada is facing a shortage of skilled workers,” added Graham. “Employers across the country are constantly looking for workers with the knowledge, skills and abilities to fill positions in the manufacturing, technology, hospitality, transportation and construction sectors. Through our cooperative education and Specialist High Skills Majors programs, students are finding more opportunity than ever to prepare themselves for a rewarding career in the skilled trades.”
