What a week!
Students at A.N. Myer Secondary in Niagara Falls celebrated
their school’s first-ever Metrobowl win in Toronto, while the Eden Flyers
continued their unparalleled streak of eight straight OFSAA volleyball
championships.
Last Wednesday, the A.N. Myer Marauders junior boys football
team put their perfect season on the line as they took to the field in Toronto
to face off against Oshawa’s Monsignor Paul Dwyer in the Metrobowl Championship
game.
The Marauders struck once in the first quarter for a 7-0
lead, and had built an insurmountable 35-14 lead by half-time. Myer would go on
to win the game by a final score of 45-21, cementing the school’s undefeated
season and first-ever Metrobowl championship.
Head coach Jamie French credited the outstanding effort from
the students and his fellow coaches for preparing them for Wednesday’s success.
“From day one, the students were ready to compete. They never lost focus and
they definitely deserve to enjoy their success.”
Eight is Great
For the eighth year in a row, the Eden Flyers are soaring
above the competition. Over the November 23 weekend, the St. Catharines school
won its eighth consecutive OFSAA boys AA volleyball title.
Head Coach Albino Pereira said the team focused on
continuous improvement and winning under pressure as they prepared to defend
the streak of seven straight championships.
Eden won the gold medal in Thunder Bay by defeating St.
Michael’s Stratford in the finals.
Pereira suspects the team will have an excellent chance of
winning a ninth straight title, as the Flyers are a young team and he expects
the majority of players to be back next year.
