Searching for the DSBN’s Next Technological
Skills Champions
Beginning
next week, students across the District School Board of Niagara put their technical
know-how on display at the DSBN Technological Skills Challenges.
Entering
its 16th exciting year, the event will highlight the talents,
knowledge and creativity of public school students in one of the Niagara
region’s premier technology showcases. During the month of February, hundreds
of students will compete in 24 different and distinct challenges. Events
include everything from baking to construction, graphic design and
welding.
“This
event is certainly a highlight of the year for many technology students who
have been learning their crafts and honing their skills since September,” says John
Sherk, Skills Development Coordinator.
In
addition to the school based events, students will also be putting their
expertise on display within the community. Challenges are scheduled to take
place at the Market Square in St. Catharines, the Seaway Mall and Niagara
College.
Technology
Consultant Kevin Graham says the DSBN appreciates the support of both its
post-secondary and industry partners. “Our partners donate their time,
resources and even facilities for these competitions and all the related
preparation. Being able to work with professionals and benefit from their
experience and expertise really enhances the learning experience. It is one of
the reasons why these events are so popular amongst students,” says Graham.
Gold
medalists from each of the DSBN Regional Challenges will advance to the
provincial level competitions held from May 5-7, at RIM Park in Waterloo.
