Canada’s Largest XBox Tournament Set to Take
Place in Niagara Falls
Hundreds
of gamers will descend on Niagara Falls from May 2 – 4 to test their mettle
against the toughest competition around North America. Now into its third year,
the Ultimate Gaming Challenge (UGC) has grown into Canada’s largest XBox video
game tournament. This year, over 450 gamers have registered to take part in the
tournament.
The
event features two popular gaming titles for participants to choose from, Call
of Duty: Ghosts and NHL 14. In Call of Duty, participants will compete in teams
of four for $20,000 in prizes. The UGC has attracted some of the top
competitive teams in all of North America, with compLexity, Optic, EnVyUs and
Team Curse all registered to take part.
Proceeds
from the tournament will go to support the development of The Walker Living
Campus at Woodend and other important school-based initiatives such as
breakfast programs.
DSBN
Chief Information Officer Dino Miele says he’s encouraged by how the tournament
has grown over the years. “Since 2012, we’ve added over 50 teams to the Call of
Duty division and registration sold out in just 40 minutes. We have also issued
over 500 on-site spectator passes and expect to have tens of thousands of
viewers follow the live-stream online.”
“The
popularity of eSports is growing by leaps and bounds. This year’s X Games will
even feature a Call of Duty tournament providing an additional avenue for
gamers to be recognized for their skills and abilities,” added Miele.
The
Scotiabank Convention Centre is located at 6815 Stanley Avenue in Niagara
Falls.
