National Education
Technology Conference Thunders into Niagara
From Kindergarten through post-secondary graduation,
technology can be used to support and enhance student success. From May 8 – 9,
educators, technologists and school leaders will gather in Niagara Falls at
Canada's national K-12 and post-secondary learning and technology conference.
Taking place at the Scotiabank Convention Centre, Connect 2014 is presented by
the District School Board of Niagara, Brock University’s Faculty of Education
and Mindshare Learning.
CONNECT 2014: Canada’s Learning & Technology Conference
is a two-day national convention which will bring together over 1,500 K-12,
college and university educators, librarians, technologists, and school leaders
to collaborate and become familiar with the latest technology resources that
support 21st century teaching and learning.
This year’s conference features two globally renowned
innovators. Dr. Michael Fullan, renowned for his leadership in transforming
school systems around the world says there's a revolution of sorts taking place
in schools. “We will see much more change in the next three years than in the
past 15 years,” says Dr. Fullan, professor emeritus at the University of
Toronto. Dr. Kecia Ray, president of the International Society for Technology
in Education (ISTE), will share her expertise in professional learning having
recently returned from the Middle East.
The conference provides participants with an opportunity to
attend over 100 engaging professional development sessions delivered by
innovative educators from across Canada showcasing the latest uses for tablets
with Google docs to game design. A hands-on exhibit area will feature the
latest and greatest in tech trends with some 100 exhibitors, including the NAO
programmable dancing robot; innovative start-ups with the opportunity to test
drive the latest technology from some of the world’s leading technology
companies.
Building on previous events, Connect 2014 “will support
educators in their quest to enrich student learning through emerging
technologies. It will allow educators from K-12 to post-secondary to network
with their colleagues as well as share best practices, research and proven
strategies that will foster mobile personal learning environments for all
students,” says Dino Miele, DSBN Chief Information Officer and Connect 2014
Conference Chair.
