Churchill Student Headed to PEI
A
student from Sir Winston Churchill has punched his ticket to Charlottetown,
PEI, after claiming the top prize at a prestigious French speaking competition.
Pierre Simiganoschi earned first place in the Grade 11-12 category at the 30th
annual Concours et festival d’art oratoire held at York University’s bilingual
campus in Toronto on May 10. Simiganoschi will now represent Ontario at the
national competition being held in PEI on May 24.
For
earning a first place finish in the FSL plus category, Pierre will receive a
$1,000 scholarship to York University, or $2,000 to La Citié collégiale. For
placing first at the Nationals, students could earn a $32,000 scholarship to
the University of Ottawa, or a $20,000 scholarship to the University of
Moncton.
Twenty-four students took part in the DSBN French
speaking competition held in February. From the Board competition, 8 students
qualified to take part in the provincial contest.
