Meadowvale Celebrates
60 Years in the Community
On Friday, May 30, students, their families and community
members will come together at Meadowvale Public School to celebrate 60 years of
education at the St. Catharines school.
Guests will have an opportunity to see the school through
the eyes of former students and staff when staff open up a time capsule that
had been buried on school property.
“Generations of
students have made many lasting memories at Meadowvale over the years and we
look forward to welcoming them back this week,” says Peter Hawkey, Meadowvale
Principal. The school originally opened its doors in 1954. At the time, the
Meadowvale had four classrooms, washrooms and a general office. The building has received several additions
over the years, most recently in 1973.
“We want to honour the school’s rich history, but also look
forward to carrying that tradition of excellence forward into the new, combined
school at Sheridan Park next school year,”
added Hawkey.
To offset the impacts of declining enrolment, DSBN Trustees
voted to have Meadowvale students join their friends at Sheridan Park Public
School in September, 2014. As part of the Trustees decision, the combined
school will be renamed to reflect the growing school community.
