DSBN Students Shine at Provincial Skills Competitions
DSBN students are returning from Toronto with gold and silver medals in tow after a very successful showing at the Skills Ontario provincial competitions.
“We sent an exceptional group of young men and women to the provincial competitions in Toronto,” said Roy Smith, DSBN Technology and Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM) Consultant. “Each student put in a tremendous effort and deserves to be congratulated for competing at such a high level.”
Gold Medal Winners:
Michael Shannon, Stamford Collegiate (Niagara Falls), Hairstyling
Myles Jackson, Port Colborne High School, Welding
Aidan Hawkins and Hannah Walker, Port Colborne High School, Geographic Information Systems
Silver Medal Winners:
Mitch Black, Port Colborne High School, Automotive Service
Cody Lau, St. Catharines Collegiate, Baking
Additionally, Michael Shannon (Hairstyling) and Myles Jackson (Welding) will represent the DSBN as part of team Ontario at the Skills Canada National Competition taking place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from May 28-29.
DSBN Director of Education Warren Hoshizaki also offered his congratulations to all students who took part in the regional qualifiers and provincial skills competitions. “Over the years, many students have found success through the DSBN’s technology and SHSM programs. All students deserve to be proud of themselves for the time and effort they dedicated to this process and they success they achieved,” said Hoshizaki.
