I am pleased to announce the appointment of Darren VanHooydonk to the position of Superintendent of Education for the District School Board of Niagara, effective September 1, 2021.
Darren comes to the DSBN with a variety of experiences including four years as a superintendent and over 25 years in education serving a variety of diverse communities throughout the Peel District School Board.
Darren currently serves as Peel’s System Superintendent of Social-Emotional Learning and Well-Being. He is passionate about equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and anti-oppression and is committed to addressing systemic barriers and focusing on changing outcomes for underserved students. In his time as a superintendent, Darren has also provided leadership to K-12 Family of Schools with a focus on improving student achievement.
Darren is a respected system leader who is known for being an effective and conscientious superintendent, a collaborative problem solver, and someone who fosters and models a culture of professionalism in every interaction. He is dedicated to lifelong learning and fostering a culture of high achievement while also demonstrating empathy, humanity, and a sense of humour.
