DSBN Announces New Director of Education

Dec 06, 2023

District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kelly Pisek as the new Director of Education and Secretary to the Board. Pisek will begin her new role on January 1, 2024.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have Kelly serve as our next Director,” said Sue Barnett, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “Her commitment to education and to serving the needs of our students, staff and community is highly evident. She is held in high regard for her strong focus on equity and achievement and for always keeping students at the core of decision-making. We look forward to working together for the benefit of our entire educational community.”

Pisek has over 30 years’ experience with the DSBN and moves into the role after 11 years as a member of the Senior Leadership team. As Superintendent of Education, she has been responsible for supporting administrators in over 40 schools throughout the Niagara Region in their role in leading student achievement and improving well-being. She brings a wealth of educational leadership and experiences to the position.

“I am immensely proud to work for the District School Board of Niagara and am excited to begin this new role,” said Pisek who was appointed Director at last night’s Board meeting. “I look forward to collaborating with Trustees, the Senior Leadership team, as well as all staff, students and families within our school communities. I have great pride in what we do and where we are headed as well as immense appreciation for the community partners we work alongside. I am committed to those we serve, in the classroom and beyond.”

Pisek succeeds Warren Hoshizaki, to date, the longest serving Director of Education in Ontario. Hoshizaki announced his retirement earlier this year and leaves the Board after 40 years in education, 18 of which he spent as Director of Education with the DSBN. “I feel so honored to have worked with Warren and to have been a part of the incredible achievements made during his tenure,” said Pisek. “He has been an extraordinary mentor, and I will continue to lead the Board with the shared goal of always putting students first.”

“Kelly brings continuity to the important work of our Board and under her guidance, the DSBN’s commitment to creating equitable educational experiences and opportunities where everyone’s uniqueness is valued and celebrated will remain in place. We look forward to co-creating our future together,” said Barnett.
